How do you handle being physically blocked?

Gently push him out of the way as you move around him and say excuse me and then continue the conversation as if nothing happened. This puts you in the dominant position with the guy and he will move or he will look like a douche bag. And it will impress the girl because you wont seem immature.

I'm often the guy stepping between some douche at a club and one of the lady friends I arrive at the club with. Most of the time, it's because the lady friend looks back, makes eye contact with me and gives me a look that pleads, "oh god, [my name] please help me get rid of this douche."

I usually leave them alone for a bit to give the guy a fighting chance, but after the girl starts giving me the "you asshole, help me now" glare I step in.

This usually happens with douches that read too much advice online and become overly persistent ersatz alphas. When a girl isn't interested, sometimes it's best to salvage your dignity and walk away. Otherwise one of her man friends has to intervene and stare you down until you walk away with your tail between your legs.

I don't intend to insult anyone and I don't particularly enjoy being a white knight, but most times I am at the girls request.

The exception is if a guy is hitting on my date, in which case the girl usually returns after you give her a stern stare. Physically going over to separate them reeks of insecurity and immaturity.

My advice would be to firmly and politely tell the guy off. "excuse me, what was that? I was obviously having a conversation with her. Why would you get in the middle of us like that?" if it comes to a fight, let him make the first move. Composure is far more attractive than blind aggression.

Since you said she walked off I'll assume the guy was passing through. Next time say 'what a retard', put your arm around her and say If you need me to kill someone tonight, just tug on your ear lobe. very important to let her know you are in control of her security, and allowed the transgression out of restraint as opposed to being steamrolled by it
