How do you know someone's hitting on you?

In some ways, you know when you're ready to know.

I've noticed that girls are the ones who usually make the moves on me but I really do not notice until weeks maybe months later .. "oh , she was hitting on me lol"

What's happening is that you are gaining insight into human nature and perhaps some confidence. (Because confidence affects whether we even accept/acknowledge it when people are hitting on you.) These things are allowing you the vision to notice things that happened. As those things continue to develop, you'll know in the moment. You may already be capable of this.

with guys theyre more obvious and tend to not be as smooth and are really really straightforward, so how do you know someone is hitting on you?

One good way to know if they're interested, is based on how they respond to your actions in their personal space. So if you get into someone's personal space, there will be a response. If you touch someone in some way, they will respond. Etc. Those responses will tell you whether they are interested in you.

Assume attraction until there is a strong signal otherwise

Some signs I notice:

She gives an abundance of attention to my actions and words. She makes and holds eye contact. She touches/fixes her hair. She is receptive to me sharing her space/kino. She enters my space and touches me. She asks engaged questions. She laughs when I tease her. She smiles brightly at me. Her cheeks get color. She is game to engage in unorthodox, more complex lines of conversation.

I usually look for some combination of these (and others). The more that are present, the more likely it is that she is demonstrating attraction.

After awhile it becomes second nature. You can develop your sensitivity by going out and people watching at a venue where people take dates (coffee shop is classic). Look for people employing the above-listed signs.

If you have to ask "why would he do/ask that" he is probably hitting on you.

yeah im bi but the thing is ive never really cared for people(romantically) or in an intimate way. thats why i ignore everyone hitting on me and just assume theyre being nice lol. since this happened ive cant seem to separate the flirty ones with the nice ones theyre all mixed up.

and

yeah you can tell when some get all touchy basically on top of you but i want to know the subtle ones

It's honestly sometimes hard to tell because someone hitting on you and someone just trying to make interesting conversation can be pretty similar and sometimes if misinterpreted can go bad or south fast. I guess honestly just ask "are you hitting on me?" And if they say yes well then hey crisis averted.
