I'm generally an apologetic and shameless person, which is why back in the day, when I was a teen, I would be labelled the class bully.
I've changed since then and have been nicer to other people, and thankfully a lot of people notice, sharing with me their secrets and labelling me as someone they can trust.
But recently a (relatively more successful) friend told me that "nobody likes you". It really hit home for me. It really pissed me off. I deflected it with self deprecating humor instinctively at first, but I just couldn't sleep the night I got home. I kept thinking about it. It's not something I could just shrug off.
I know the general consensus here is to just do what you want, regardless of the consequences, regardless of what others think. But I don't think advice would apply to the bully I once was. After all, If everyone thought like that, they'd be in prison.
So yeah guys, how do you deal with hate in a practical way? Especially when people bring back your past or the darkest secrets that you wish to hide?
