If you are going to cold approach a girl, you have to decide the proper way to do it. You also have to read her body language and make decisions. Cold approaching has to be done with cold reading. If you do it without any thought it could end horrible.

You could interpret that as an example of "social circle game." Instead of cold approaches, you're doing "warm approaches" because the person is in your social circle and if they don't already know you, then you have friends in common.
The advocates of cold approach, especially day game, say that a random approach has a higher chance of success because it is out of context of a club or bar where everyone is hitting on her. Of course you don't want to harass women who don't want social contact. But a polite hello to a stranger is rarely a cause for offense.

Seconding this. At a bar/club, you can just go hit on a girl. Chances are, that's what she's there for. During the day, just go talk to her and see how it flows. If she seems receptive, ask. She'll be much more likely to be closed off if you just blatantly ask her out, but if you build a little rapport first, you'll be much better off.
