No, I'm not really fat. I'm in fucking great shape, actually.
But my personality is fat. My mentality is flabby. My game is weak. I can barely put up the bar.
I went out last night for the first time in over 5 years with the intent of doing approaches. I was by myself.
We can get into why another time, but the point is that after going out and trying to use what little I remembered and trying to improvise the rest, I realized something: I am fucking out of shape.
But last night I knew I had to go out. So I grabbed my balls, went to "Bungalow" in Santa Monica, and said that I wouldn't drink any alcohol until opening at least 10 sets. And that I had to open at least ten sets before leaving.
First of all, let me just say that I was absolutely petrified. I'm a good looking guy in very good shape, but as we all know that doesn't mean shit.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm friendly if the conversation just happens to start naturally. I can talk to people at the gym no problem, even at the grocery store from time to time. But the thought of approaching women in a bar scared me.
Still, I knew I had to do something about it, and last night was the night. I got a text from a few guys I met on a forum saying that they would be at Bungalow, so with no more excuses I decided to go.
Anyway, I rolled up to the bar by myself. This is a popular spot, and at 10 PM on a Saturday night there was a line of 100 people to get in. Half tempted to leave, I kicked myself mentally and forced myself to stay.
Before going out, I had watched a few videos on YouTube on "how to approach women." Yes, I am that rusty.
Anyway, I found some guy who seemed good looking and confident, and basically he said to just smile, go up to them and say, "Hi, my name is <name>. What's your name?"
Now, this guy is one of those handsome confident types that makes everything look easy. But I thought, "Fuck it, I can do that too." So that was my opener for pretty much the entire night, except for a few sets.
A few minutes after getting into the line, two girls walked up behind me. They weren't so great, maybe a 6 and a 7, but I figured I would get the ball rolling and start talking to them anyway.
I go, "Hey, you're girls - what are you doing in line? Why don't you just go to the front?"
They laughed and we actually made small talk the entire time, maybe about 20 or so minutes, until we finally made it inside. Was good to do a warm up set. That much I at least still remember.
Once I got inside, I was surprised that I actually wasn't as scared as I thought I would be. I was wandering around the bar (it's huge) looking for these guys, and decided to open up another warm up set.
"Hey, I'm <my name>. Who are you?"
Another 6 and 7. Blah blah blah, stupid conversation. Five minutes later I left.
I opened another 2 sets before finally finding these guys, and both of them went well. Both of them I opened with that line, a big smile and even a handshake (lol not very smooth I know).
But what was strange to me is how I didn't get blown out of any of the sets that night. The girls all seemed very receptive, or at least they didn't tell me to fuck off.
The 4th set of the night was this latina chick and an asian. They were probably a 7 and a 7.5. Now, I used to be one of those guys who used to sell hair straighteners in the mall, and I noticed that this latina chick had some long flowing hair. So I made some comments, touched her hair a bit and we talked about that for a while.
About five minutes in, the two wings texted me and I excused myself to go meet with them.
Anyway, the night went on and I opened more sets. I think they were all two sets that night.
To stay chatty, I even opened a few sets of guys just to keep talking and be social. I heard someone speaking Hebrew (I'm Israeli/American), and I went over and started talking to them.
We were all standing there for a bit when I noticed a hot blonde and her friend hovering a few feet away. I turned to the blonde and said, "Excuse me, I want to ask you something. How many boyfriends do you have?"
She made some joke about how she had so many. We talked for a few minutes, I made her and her friend laugh some more and she touched my arm a few times.
Thinking that I was on the right track, I upped the ante. I asked my target's friend if she saw any guys there tonight that she liked. She said no.
Her friend corrected her and said that there was one, but that he had long blonde hair. Then she goes, "He's basically me. She's basically attracted to me."
Thinking I was being clever, I go, "Well, she must have low standards then!"
Unsurprisingly, her friend stormed off and the blonde followed. I could tell by her smile that she thought it was funny, but she had this look on her face like, "Sorry, looks like you blew it!"
I opened a few more sets that night, but started to lose steam as the night went on. Got to my 10th approach and left empty handed.
So why do I say I'm fat? My game is flabby. On too many occasions, I found myself falling back on small talk and fluff. There was too much, "What do you do, where are you from, blah blah blah" stupid shit. The conversations kept getting pushed back there.
And when I was stupid enough to answer these questions, I realized that the words that were coming out of my mouth were making me seem like a loser.
Anyway.. I realize this isn't much of a field report, and people on here are probably crushing like 3 girls a week and exchanging saliva with females left and right. But I hadn't gone out in a while and thought I would post this here.
I'm going out again tonight and brushing up on my skills, but would be happy to hear what you guys have to say. Give me some advice!
