I think you just conditioned yourself to find an excuse like "oh, they're not that hot." When in reality it's a defence mechanism to justify your approach anxiety. We all have it. The key here is to not to second guess it, do it and accept the possibility its going be an epic failure or something much greater- going on a date

I guess. But one girl I saw looked somewhat like a girl I approached a few months ago but no attraction. I go into approaches with less than zero expectations, but yeah, it sucks to have a defence mechanism like this.

I'm talking about a "type" not just physical. Nerdy girls, party girls, fit girls, girls with dreams, wears glasses, has a ponytail, bookworms, poltically active, etc and/or a mix of various types together. Form that in your head, then look for a girl that seems like that, then approach.

Basically what I'm trying to say is if you don't know what you want, you won't bother looking. I like professional business type women, nerdy women, light skin goth types, short with glasses, shy girls, smart girls, or a combination of any of those. That allows me to filter out any chick I really don't care about. I dont like bleach blonde party chicks, country girls, black girls (sue me) or leftwing hippys. Why approach a girl i know I will never like after I get to know her?
I don't know, it's just ones I see the first time and my brain tells me I'm attracted to her etc.
