So many times lately my logical brain has thought: look at her body language, she's not interested. But my training has taught me: she's attracted but hasn't rationalized it yet. The most obvious indicator is that she's still interacting with you or is quiet but still staying available to you.
Quiet but available is important. How many times have you talked to an attractive woman in the coffee shop or elsewhere and she just got quiet after awhile? Maybe you give up at that point or make the situation awkward? Instead try reinitiating the conversation -- "i was thinking about that thing you said earlier, why do you feel that way?"
Tonight i just got back from a girl's apartment who I met in a coffee shop a few days ago -- more than once she got really quiet during our conversation, and she went back to studying. So did I. I was, however, being aware for anytime she'd look up, and casually reinitiate the conversation. I kept steering it towards fun territory: travel plans, recent trips, upcoming events, etc. Eventually we got to talking about interests and teasing each other a little.
I knew in that moment she was primed. I had to leave so I said "you're really fun to be around, what's the best way to contact you?" she actually gave me her email address, which was odd but it's her primary mode of communication -- and up until today we had some great converation, today she invited me to come over to her place and help her fix something. We had a great time.
So when it seems awkward but not over, try to reinitiate conversation. Some girls are just shy or are super serious about studying. Keep the ball rolling, and you may have to continue starting conversations if you want to progress.
