First of all, thank you all so much for your advice and your personal stories; they've helped me tremendously.

Ever since I joined seddit, I've implemented my own version of all the techniques I've learned. I moved away from online dating and forced myself to not hide behind a screen. I approached girls on my campus nearly every day. I didn't approach them with any intentions other than meeting new people. Think of it as practice. Forcing myself to be comfortable.

I'm not unattractive, I play soccer and run track so I'm in pretty good shape, and most people I know think I'm funny. I'm also really approachable, in my opinion.

Despite all that, I was never able to score a date with any of these girls. I guess I was too worried about coming off too friendly or too thirsty. I wasn't acting natural because I was thinking too much. I was almost too self-aware.

One day, I saw this really pretty girl sitting by herself and decided right then and there that I wanted to go on a date with her. No hesitation, no overthinking; just acting as natural and comfortable as possible.

I walked up to her, introduced myself, joked around, and got her snapchat. I found that it's way less intrusive than phone numbers.

Waited a couple days, and saw her again before I had a chance to text her on the app and invited her to eat dinner with me. At dinner, I flirted, joked around and gauged her interest. I saw that she was interested but didn't make a move. I was too much in my own head. I was too scared of what would happen.

But then here comes seddit to the rescue. Literally everyone screamed "just do it." (Insert shia labeouf gif here). The worst that can happen is that she says no and we move on with our lives.

Asked her out again the next week for ice cream. I drove. We're in the parking lot, sitting outside my car, and I told her if she could do an impersonation, I would give her a ride home. Otherwise, she would have to walk. I was joking but I was being myself. Goofy. Random. But still relaxed. I felt in total control of the situation.

Until she said she couldn't do it. I knew right then that it was my opportunity to say something cool like "maybe this will help" (and then kiss her) or "I'll let you trade the impersonation for a kiss" or something but I didn't. I just looked at her until she looked at me, held her hand and pulled her close and just did it. I just. Did. It.

See, guys and gals, I realized that your brain is your worst enemy in these situations. Excuse the cheesy thing I'm about to say, but let your heart be the captain here. Don't overthink. Don't try to guess what she/he is thinking. Just do it. Go for it, and whatever happens happens. Take your success or failure with grace.

Thank you all. Now I'm gonna go binge watch The Office as a consolation gift. Hope you all end your year "productively." ;)
