I have no interesting stories

Come up with an interesting story!

Honestly, stories are about storytelling, not content. Good story tellers can talk about any random day way more engaging and entertaining than you can probably talk about the most exciting thing that has ever happened to you :P

Don't slack off on this important skill!

Also, looking into conversation threading, there are some good guides on it.

you don't have anything interesting to say? how in the world is that even a possibility. if you don't think it's interesting, then how will you make anyone else interested in it. talk about something you are passionate about and the other person cannot help but care. it's not the content that is important, but how you deliver it. some people i know can talk about the most mundane things but make it sound interesting. steer the convo towards something you find interesting and talk about it brah. and if she doesn't find what you have to say interesting, then they are probably dead inside and you are not into necrophilia anyways, i think.

I think this is your problem right here. You're focused on related it to you. If someone said, "I play basketball," you had an opportunity to dig deeper into that. People love to talk about themselves, all you have to do is give them an excuse. They love talking about their motivations (why they did something) or their thoughts/feelings (how they felt about something or their preferences in some area).

What you done if you simply say, "Oh, you play basketball, I play basketball," is kill the conversation when you could be asking them how they got into basketball or how often they play. C'mon, man, you're making this too complicated. You don't to come up with some magical, interesting thing to say. You just need to be INTERESTED in what someone is talking about, especially when they're talking about themselves. Here's a "flow chart":

Ask a question or make a comment on something interesting, strange, or funny. (Hell, even the "boring" things like, "What do you do for work?" are fine.)
Then you PAY ATTENTION. Stop thinking about yourself and/or what you want to say when they're talking because it's going to fuck you up.
Then when they finish talking, give some thought to what they said, and come up with a response that digs deeper, based on what they just said. (Think about Who, What, Where, When, Why, & How questions.)
Rinse and repeat.
