An opener starts a conversation.

A close ended question calls for a close ended answer, not starting a conversation.

These types of situations are great for opening your mouth, but are hard to capitalize on.

If some random dude asks me for the time, or where 7th street is, I can tell him, AND BE ON MY WAY. If dude wants to pull a "By the way" and then try to sell me a mixtape - he's gonna get mushed. Bait and switch is the problem with most of these modern day game lines. But that's usually because the guys pushing it have no sense of social dynamics and/or empathy.

You'll see a lot of these bad PUAs instruct guys to do the "come clean"

"EXCUSE ME, what time does the....I'm just kidding, I think you're cute and wanted to come say Hi"

That's sloppy seduction.

Most guys that use these kind of "elderly openers" transition into the actual opener - the thing that actually brings her anti stranger defenses down and let's her be normal.

PUA - What time does the grocery store close?

Girl of Interest - "8:00" and starts to walk away.

Option 1 - PUA logically reacting to her statement -

"Stores close so late here, In my country/Where I'm from..."

This is a normal and socially acceptable thing to say. But in terms of seduction, it's bait. Will she bite?

If the girl is being social or courteous, she'll ask you where you are from. Now the chat is open.

Making this work depends on her being social or taking random interest in some random guy.

Option 2 - after hearing the girl say eight o'clock.

"Oh wow, where is that accent from?"

Better variation of the "noticing the accent" opener,

"That's an interesting accent, are you from XXX country?"

Girls, foreign girls especially, often respond well to that question. (You want to stay away from "what are you mixed with" and "where are you from"

This is a subtle point in the game, but you never want to comment on looks, but "you sound like" or "you act like" are usually fine)

The follow up and phase change is something like -

"You know what they say about girls from Suriname.." (To which she asks what)

Or.

"I've been warned about girls from Armenia, they are all XXX (nothing but trouble) " (and this provokes a reaction)

You can keep going down this line for a bit, but use thread cutting to extend the chat.

But the key to an opener like this, is you get to ask the girl about herself, in a way that she wants to talk about herself and can't stop.

I have a small fridge and shop almost every day. So there is plenty of opportunity to chat up random girls, but since it's somewhat of a closed environment, I treat it like the gym. Talk to staff and talk to everyone, not just the girls. You don't want to get singled out by security
