When you go out with coworkers are you mostly talking about work? Or other stuff? I know sometimes people go out and want to talk about work gossip which is fine but you have to connect on other things - what do you have in common outside of work? Honestly making friends is a lot like dating…you kind of have to keep at it. If you hang out with a certain work person a few times and they never ask you to hang out then maybe they aren’t interested in being friends outside work. But if someone is interrupt should start to reciprocate invites.

With clubs I think it’s mostly about consistency. Try to go to the same club on a regular basis so you start to see the same people. And then try to parlay that into other activities. Don’t be afraid to ask people what they are doing in the coming weeks. And then if they are doing something that interests you, you might be able to sort of invite yourself along. Not in a creeepy way of course but let’s say someone says they are going to an art show that weekend that sounds interesting. You could say “that sounds cool - any chance I could tag along?” I wouldn’t do that too often but now and then is fine.

Maybe try changing your dating app settings a bit. Sometimes changing age range or distance a bit makes a huge difference. When yiu match with someone are you sending a message or wait ling for them to?

I do my best to talk about other things, but often times there’s just a lull in the conversation. I try to connect on various topics. Movies, sports, the news, politics, etc. Sometimes it works and we have a good conversation but that’s as far as it’ll go.

I always hesitate to include myself, though I’ve done it in the past. I get the feeling that most people here like to stick to their own. It’s definitely been much harder to make friends just in general.

As for dating sites, I’ve changed the age and the preferences. I’m usually one to send a message first, but only one. That area is a little harder for me since the concept of flirting is all just strange.

I’ll add one last thing. I do have friends that live out of state, so I do talk to people. It’s just not quite the same and the isolation is starting to get to me. Not giving up though.
