New Years Eve allows for a "plausible deniability" to precipitate the possibility of rejection.
It's not "a kiss" it's just New Years Eve and is therefore expected behavior.

there's nothing wrong with being rejected when you go in for a kiss. That comes with taking risks and making yourself vulnerable. Take a chance, if your advances get rebuffed, it doesn't phase you. besides, getting rejected and being unphased is a huge dhv, can always go in for another kiss in a few minutes. What i'm saying is You can channel playful innocence into any kiss, any day of the year.

You're mistaken, the rejection could be for the kiss but more relevantly can serve as an excuse not to necessarily expect any further follow-up.
There is a world of difference between a kiss any day of the year and a kiss on New Years Eve.
