Asked this on r/askseddit but didn't get too many answers so I figured since this really isn't a beginner question that it might do better here;

So I'm seeing this girl and she brings up the subject of exes, it was a short conversation but in it she mentions why she broke up with her boyfriend. She said that she felt like he had a vagina, and he was not really a man. She said that shes always thought that in a relationship there should be a man and a woman, and she felt as though she did not get that with him, that he wasn't masculine enough. She mentioned how he would often put her up on a pedestal way too much, or something along those lines. And to quote her, she jokingly called him a "pussy". I changed the subject, but it got me thinking. I really like this girl. Funny, smart, and beautiful. However, now I am paranoid about making the same mistake her ex made. Now I know what a pussy is, and what not being a man kind of means, but what I don't know is what being a pussy, and not a man means in the context of a relationship. Can any of you shed some light and help me avoid the mistakes of her ex?
