Let me tell you how I overcame this.

When you're approaching the girl, think about your action and not other people's reaction. Your actions will determine what happens. Other people's opinions and reactions doesn't matter. Keep repeating actions not reactions to your self. And don't make plans, just focus on the moment and words will flow out of your mouth.

honestly, groups actually work to your advantage. this is when you want to use indirect openers. when you use an indirect opener on a group, they feed the conversational material, making you look more interesting with less work. The mystery method covers group dynamics pretty well.

you want to befriend her friends and playfully neg her. making you look more valuable to them while simultaneously decreasing her value. she needs to earn her approval. her effort to earn it will make her interested in you. when she's interested, you isolate her, give the group something to hold on and tell them some excuse to pull her away. the book describes in more detail what to do but as for indirect openers, youll need google. important note: dont remember a bunch of openers, have 2 or 3 in the pocket but asking personally thought questions will be better for your social health.

you in 1 on 1 ; the conversation is only as interesting as both parties, if she's not interesting and doesnt know how to hold a conversation, your not interesting. if you cant hold a conversation, your not interesting. now, im not saying that the direct approach is bad, it's just not as easy.

as far as "group rejection" goes. no one knows, who you know or dont know. if you walk up to a group with high energy, as if youve known them forever, guess what people will assume?ask yourself, how many times have you seen a man hitting on women from a distance. what about up close,(if ever) what gave it away? the act, or the fact that you overheard?

now hitting on women in groups,i definitely say, steer clear of direct openers. women will reject you much more often (you should get comfortable with being rejected, it wont kill ,you but in the meantime...) because women in groups feel like they can't reveal themselves around friends (its "slutty"). if they are around family, its even more so (imagine talking about sex with your parents in the room). indirect openers allow you to talk with them, find out who is who, and win the group over. even if you dont get the girl, socializing with these groups may earn you some new friends.
