In my faculty (architecture), it's common for tight-knit groups to be formed within studios and most people know each other because it's a relatively small faculty.

For the first couple of months after school started I was the "leader" of my studio group. However, after a while, I began to feel like I lost that standing. I just didn't click with most of them due to differences in interests, upbringing etc (English-educated vs Chinese-educated). This really fucked with my self-esteem, and even though I'm still pretty friendly with most people I can't help but feel like I could be in a better situation.

Any advice? Should I just not care? Outside of school I have no problems being the "centre of attention" for lack of a better description, but it bothers me that I don't have as much control over my social situation at school as I would like.
