First thing to realize is, if they're interested, they'll isolate themselves. A lot of guys here try to advocate for all these tricks. Like you have to have someone distract her friends or block her from her friends.

Nevermind how creepy all that can sound: if she's not down, then trying to distract her friends won't change a thing and blocking her from her friends won't change the situation if she wants to peace out.

__2: But she won't be down if you can't interact with her friends__

My problem is when I approach a pair of girls I will talk to them both and then focus on the one of interest. But obviously the other girl is left on her own so she will take her away.

You're contradicting yourself. You say that you'll talk to them both, but then you leave the other one alone.

You already identified the issue. You are starting off by paying mere lip service to the idea that this friend of hers exists. Of course she's going to pull her friend away if you start ignoring her.

They came together, so you need to interact with both of them because the approval of anyone she's with, is going to matter to her: she's known them longer than she's known you.

Focus any escalation on the one you're interested on, but talk to both of them.

__3: Wingman unnecessary__

The obvious answer is to get a wingman but all my available wingmen kinda suck.

You could get a wingman, but you don't need one. You just need to treat her friend like a person instead of a barrier. Then you might get somewhere.

__4: Acclimate to the venue__

When girls are dancing in groups of more than 2 it's more intimidating for me to approach (I know, I know. I just need to grow a pair) and so it affects my game a bit.

No, it's not just about "growing a pair." You need to shift the way you're thinking about this. You're worried about doing the right thing as you approach such a group. Fuck that group. Dance floors are not about any particular person or group on the floor. They're about having fun, enjoying the music, and dancing.

If you want to connect with anyone on the dance floor, start by having fun and then maybe you'll be able to connect with them on the basis that you're enjoying the same experience they are.

__5: Her group will only help if she's actually down__

Whenever I do approach groups though the girls still take away my girl after a few minutes of talking to her even if she is interested.

Couple things here:

If the girl LETS her friends pull her away, question whether she was actually interested. When she's really interested, she'll wave her friends off. When she's really interested, her friends will run interference for you when other dudes try to step up.
If you have a group in front of you, you MUST interact with the group as a whole. Not just an introduction and then try to pull the girl away. That won't fly. You need to loosen up and stop trying to do some speed seduction shit and feel the interaction out. Stop trying to force it and stop trying to cut corners.
