Just wanted to share the story of a quick interaction I had recently
I frequent a cafe in town, where the staff all greets me on a first name basis.
I walked in today, where I waited in line for my order to be taken. Shortly after I walked in, a woman walked in and stood right behind me. Typically I would have greeted her, as I do that with just about everybody I cross paths with. Didn’t this time, and in fact, didn’t even turn to give her a look.
When I approached the counter, I was greeted by name as expected, paid, then stepped away to wait for my order. That’s when I actually got a look at the girl behind me, who was a very classy, taller, brunette who dressed like she was European
I got my drink pretty quickly, and then stood around for a bit since I wasn’t in a rush.
After she ordered, she stepped away to wait, at first walking past me, but then quickly re-treading to stand right next to me. She stopped herself, which I took as a sign to open.
To be clear, I wasn’t hyper-analyzing all of this as it happened, and much of what I’m writing is how I view it all in hindsight.
Anyway, my opener:
“Hey, your outfit looks a little… European. Are you from around here?”
She was happy I asked, a little flattered, and told me that she was actually Canadian, then she told me what province she was from, and I said, “ahh just like (famous actor)”
She hadn’t heard about the actor before, who he’d surprised me. But I went on to describe him a little bit, and she actually took her phone out to look him up. I took this as a good sign of investment in our admittedly low-substance conversation
We chatted a little bit more. She told me she loves the cold. I told her we’d never work, because I love the heat, and she laughed
I was kind of in a hurry, so I basically cut the conversation off after a little more talking, and told her to have a nice day.
I could kind of see her roll her eyes and furl her lip as I turned to leave, and thinking back, I definitely cut the conversation way too short, and I could tell she was a little disappointed. I was just feeling bubbly and social. Didn’t even properly introduce myself or ask her name.
I’m sure I’ll see her again, as we both seem to frequent the spot, but just wanted to share my anecdote.
Good IOI. Quick, friendly opener, a little push-pull, and she was invested in the conversation. She wanted it to keep going
She was also beautiful and very friendly.
