Hi guys,

Newbie here, I am recently debating whether I should go solo vs wingman for pickup.

Why do you have to choose?

Which one is better and whats your opinion of each?

Better? Neither. Apples and oranges. Having a good wingman can be a boon to game. Being free to set your own agenda and work alone has it's own benefits.

If you could choose, which one would you go with?

I've done a little of both, but mostly solo because truly good wingmen are hard to find and a bad one can really drag you down.

Going solo leaves you in control of your own situation and free to mold the night or day as you choose: you can easily become part of a new group when you don't come as a package deal.

If you don't know any good wingmen, then try going solo. Don't just bring any friend with you unless you know that you guys work well off of each other in social situations. But to be blunt, if you're a newbie, you should exercise some care because you might not have the skills to judge a good wingman. So I would recommend you go out alone a few times so you can get a feel for what it's like, before you start adding someone into the mix. If you go with a "wingman" before you know what's what, there's a risk of you guys huddling up together instead of socializing.

Oh, and try to make sure you choose venues and activities that you have FUN doing whether or not you came alone or not. Like pool or darts, perhaps.

But TL/DR

Pickup is a GAME and in order to win, you need a wing man on your side to cheer you on. The beauty of finding wing men is that their SKILL level doesn't really matter. Just their knowledge and ability to motivate you. The point is this…a wing man doesn't have to TEACH you. They just have to help push you outside of your comfort zone.

I suggest trying both and see what you prefer. Personally I would love to be able to game solo but when I've tried I just can't do it. With a friend i feel more motivated and know i have a 'safe zone' i can fall back on when things get weird.

In a way you're always going out solo. Having a wingman is really just a good way to keep your state up. Going out with a wing is never a bad idea however don't rely on them to open sets for you.
