TL;DR Be your own catalyst to improve/motivate yourself.
Sport psychology: Way to improve potential, increasing the likelihood that success will be gained, not guarantee it.
When faced with AA/not capitalizing fully and then talking negatively to yourself afterwards...it's crucial to recognize what you're saying to yourself in real time. I struggle with this still...we all do at times.
Today I see this cute girl working register all on her lonesome. I'm juggling with a gallon of water, some cough medicine, my bag, and wallet. She giggles, I pay after some small talk, I leave. Walking down the street, I criticize myself for not joking about this, not complimenting her on that, etc.
Recognize all of this shit going on in your head, and switch it. I chose to simply erase it this time and start anew. I turned right around, walked back in with a smile for a familiar face and said, "There's no way I could just leave here without meeting you." Boom, done. Big smile on her face, looks down and blushes, and we exchange digits. A clear mind is a positive mind, and that attitude is reflected in your actions.
