Small talk. How do I master it?

This might sound silly, but there are some topics on Askreddit that could make for great conversational topics. For example, there was a thread yesterday that asked what outrageous thing you would do if you were obscenely rich.

Generally, I personally try to talk about a) situational topics that might be interesting or relevant to their interests, i.e. "That bear just totally set fire to that orphanage" or b) topics that tells me something about the person I'm talking to, while giving me opportunities to make jokes/teases about his or her responses.

make observations. about her: her dress, her hair, accesories etc. about the place : people around, the food, the drink, the city. the list goes on
