Have been to some. Success rate was ok, but not spectacular. It's just the same as meeting the girls under different circumstances - with some you have a connection with others not. All a number game. Don't take it serious and have fun with it. If possible, open the other people (dudes too) before the event itself starts and be seen as a group leader instead of the shy guy in the corner. Also if possible get the whole group to hang out afterwards at a bar or a club. All of the above goes easier if you don't come alone but with some friends (preferable ladies ;) ).

Stay away from the ones where the men are the ones that go from seat to seat. You're automatically in the beta position. Studies have shown that women, when in the stationary position while men move from one seat to the next, are more selective than when they are the ones moving from seat to seat. Defenses are up, automatically when they're in the "power position".
