Started this self improvement for her, failed. Cant be bothered doing it for myself even though i know i should, how did others fix this mentality?

Id just like to clarify though, ive not changed myself to suit her. Ive improved myself in ways i like because i was motivated by the feeling of me not having to the ability to try and get the girl, and missing an opportunity.

I read the first sentence and thought "If anything besides 'I did this because I wanted to challenge myself, improve my athletic ability, get pumped when i look in the mirror' follows this sentence he's fooling himself." This reads: I did not better myself for women, I bettered myself because I wanted to be better...for women.

You are doing what youre doing for people other than you. You can fool yourself into thinking it's not that way by doing whatever verbal gymnastics you want, but it is still so. Clyde has it right. The fact you are viewing this as a do or die, one shot time window kind of thing instead of just another possibility signals that you have oneitis. Get control of yourself. Do what you do for you first. Treat this as nothing more than an opportunity in an endless sea of opportunities. To answer your question though...why wouldnt you give it a shot?

Go talk to a lot of different girls. That's how you treat oneitis. If the greatest mPUA of all time was on an island with 4 guys and an ok girl he'd get oneitis for the ok girl. I it's comes from scarcity.
