This is something that has been on my mind for a while now. I will start by saying I see no issue with following any theory that indulges the proponent of an alpha male, it can do no harm. The thing is, I'm not and never have been a real believer in this alpha/beta male concept. However my mind isn't made on the issue.
If there is such a thing as an alpha male, then why is it so temperamental, when I was younger I would witness what seemed to be true alpha males in the work place, men not much older than me who seemed to fit every attribute of the alpha, yet when we went out to the bars, out of the structured work environment which obviously empowers them, they're not getting girls flock to them, suddenly, in this environment I'm the alpha, but is that just because I've been mastering this environment while they've been, you know, working? If a women saw them how I had seen them I'm sure they would find them attractive, but take away that structure and they are nothing.
If true alphas exist it would make sense that their ability would transfer across different fields of play. What it seems to me is that you are only an 'Alpha' in your given field, much like a sportsman cannot dominate across different sports, a football player cannot turn up on a tennis court.
All an alpha therefore seems to be is someone who has played the social field/game that was placed in front of them correctly and gained social status. Social status is a powerful form of attraction, if you are valued in your social circle, you are protected, they are protected. Natural selection yada yada yada. The most attractive men in the world are not successful business men like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet. They are not political leaders like David Cameron, Obama. They are people who have carved out social acceptance- Musicians/ Singers, Movie stars and Footballers- those that are loved by society the most (Oh, let's not forgot they are good looking - You can fit every criteria of an alpha male known to man, but if you're a ugly son of a bitch you are not going to have girls flocking).
There is no set, natural, predetermined alpha, you have the ability to use your brain and etch out your social standing. Like in sports, if you were say, pushed into rugby at a young age but you never had the nack for it, don't worry, try a different sport. Find your niche, work on it and succeed. Guys I went to school with who were probably 'Alpha males' between the ages of 11-15 (If there can be such a thing at that age, even if the whole theory is true...), are now deadbeats, with the lowest values around. If the Alpha theory was true, how can that be the case?
The whole Alpha theory is synonymous with wolves. Yet the study with wolves has recently been debunked (Quick search found this which funnily enough spins my point: http://manboobz.com/2012/08/22/yo-dudes-alpha-males-are-a-myth-according-to-actual-experts-on-wolves/). In the wild a wolf pack is just a family, the alpha wolf is just the dad. Each and every child will go off and become its own alpha wolf of its own pack. It's mind bogglingly obvious that humans are very different to any other species of animal on the planet - to take observations from animals and apply them directly to us is defeatist.
Apologies for my verboseness. I'd like to hear some intelligent views of this. I would just like to add that adapting to this way of thinking can be good for your inner game. I've seen some people here who genuinely don't think they're an alpha male, well news flash, with this line of philosophy it really is just in your head.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
