Related to being in town... it needed to happen. Years ago we were supposed to meet, but she lost her phone. I couldn't contact her before I left since she had no phone available. I didn't go since it was a 4 hour drive. I didn't want to risk the time and money.

It turned out that she was waiting for me at the Hotel. So by saying I was in town, there is a good likelihood that she would blow me off (as a passive aggressive tactic).

Then explain to me why I'm banging a whole cadre of women, all of whom know the others exist, and all of whom tell me regularly that "it's so refreshing and so much easier to deal with you because I know that you don't hide anything and don't lie to me".
