What you're thinking of is called Conversational or Covert Hypnosis. It's about as legitimate as a working practice as NLP - not particularly at all.

It's mostly about using your tone of voice in a more relaxed manner. It's very popular to be marketed as a sales boosting technique, but in reality you're probably better off learning the How To Win Friends And Influence People type of etiquette.

As for standard Hypnosis, it can be a good demonstrator of value but there really is little point learning more than the physiological phenomenon, like arm locking or sticking hands to the table.

My viewpoint on game is that it is a journey to improve yourself, not learn how to manipulate the girl. Hypnosis, and Covert Hypnosis, for anything beyond explicit entertainment is, in my opinion, manipulation in its highest form.

I've been into hypnosis related tactics for years. From my experience all I can say is while it can be beneficial for relaxing and settling anxiety, it's more of a bandaid in regards to inner game development. Hypnosis I'm my opinion falls into the meditation category as it calms the subconscious mind, but the benefits afterwards vary depending on the person. Figuring out how your brain is wired can be a challenge but is absolutely necessary to becoming better with women (or at anything for that matter). Will hypnosis help with that? Maybe. Will it make you a into some hypo-mack daddy with superpowers? I'll let you decide.

Edit: I'm talking mostly about self-hypnosis, but my point still stands

You should read Models again and pay close attention to the parts where Mark Manson suggests pick up is for phonies. He's referring to old school pickup techniques like doing magic tricks, and yes, hypnosis. If your dream is to perform tricks and hypnotize crowds in a show in Vegas, than by all means, learn hypnotism. If you want to try and use it to get girls to sleep with you, you'd might as well buy a fedora, a furry jacket, some spandex pants, and some antidepressants, because that's where you'll be headed. Pick up is not about manipulation anymore. That's how it started, and all of those old "gurus" are now hanging out in their studio apartments paying alimony every month and ranting on Twitter about how they never get to see their kid. Pick up is now about becoming an attractive male, and you do that by becoming the best you that you can be. Then you sprinkle in some tips on social skills and some practice, and as long as you're not needy, you're getting quality girls and having quality relationships on your terms.
