What it means, your gf/wife isn't your mother. You even answered your own question. If you have to "work to maintain intimacy and interest" then it's not unconditional.
Edit: This isn't a bad thing. It's just that a lot of naive guys believe in some kind of two-dimensional fantasy where the only thing women want is commitment and "love" and think they don't have to do things like stay attractive, do fun things with her, flirt with and Game her, etc, etc. These guys think "happily ever after" just magically happens just because he tells her he loves her every now and then. Then they get dumped and their little fantasy is shattered. It's not entirely their fault, a lot of our culture reinforces this simplistic fantasy.

I think that would be a better way of putting it in the TRP thread. A lot of how it is described makes it seem a little darker.

A lot of angry, depressed and disillusioned guys on TRP. Guys who have been burned by failed relationships. It can be reality shattering experience.
