Isn't this a civil matter, though? Don't things have to be pretty fucked up for someone to go to jail over a civil suit?
Trust me, I don't think spousal or child support should even be mandated by law. The courts generally don't care when people fuck up their lives by getting married and/or having kids, so why the fuck should they get involved when the marriage ends?
Yes, on paper it's a problem. But I don't know the real-world stats to know if this much of a problem in practice beyond those rare, strange cases you see on the likes of "60 Minutes" wheresomeone gets chewed up by the legal system by some tragic twist of fate and bad actors (see that dude from The Making of a Murderer).
