Here’s my recent and painful experience. I hope it helps you. In short and up front, please tell the man. This past summer my wife had a brief emotional online affair with a British man she met online. She sent him nudes and discussed our sexual experiences and her desires with him. I found out about it and was naturally very angry. But, because of some obvious stressors in our life (recent childbirth, adoption, moving, her career changing) I chalked it up to the stress and we moved on. It was a surprise because I’d bought into the lie that I, as a man, was the one more likely to cheat. So I’ve always watched myself carefully on every work trip and generally hold all other women at arms length to prevent having an affair or one night stand. This thing she did was our chance to get some serious help and we didn’t get it (more on that in a moment). I got mad, she was sorry, blocked him and dumped the app she used to talk with him.

Now my wife confessed to me, it wasn’t the guy who fessed up. But either way, I would have had the option to leave her or get help to save our marriage, my decision, right? Just think, as far as your involvement, nothing has happened yet (she might have other men on the side but that’s irrelevant for my argument). If her husband was ever going to decide to stay, now is when the least damage is done. And if he decided to leave her, his sense of self and even his physical health will be that much less wounded than if she was slinking home to give him unprotected sloppy seconds (not implying you have a disease, just that what does the husband know about that? What do you or he know about other men she’s been with? And some people really hold their spouses body as a sacred and special place for them alone to be with and that’s a whole different type of hurt when they’ve passed it around).

We didn’t get ourselves into some emergency marriage therapy and in the early fall my wife went on a trip. She met up with a male childhood friend and they got super drunk together. He made sure she was really drum and then made it so she was too far of a drive to get to the safe place she had to sleep so she had to go back to sleep it off at his place. She willingly went and he “raped” her but then she spent the night and had more consensual sex with him. I found out about all of this recently. We have three kids we’re raising together and I’m still not sure what path I should take.

So in short, if you tell him, the husband has three choices. Leave her. Get marriage help if he’s that type or wants to stay for his kids. Or he can get just mad at you, put his head in the sand and do nothing. From the sound of your post, it doesn’t sound like you’re a home wrecker, just not sure of what the husband would want. I’m not him but in my case I wish I’d taken better care when I could have to prevent what happened later.

Tell him. Also, be careful and protect yourself if you live in one if the few states where you can sue for Alienation of Affection as you could be liable even if you don't have sex. I'll be suing my soon to be ex-wife's former ex-boyfriend next year for Alienation of Affection for contributing to the divorce. He knew she was married and still pursued. I have the texts saying as much.
