Not true, I just finished losing/giving everything to an ex girlfriend to get rid of her after I found out she was a cheat. She sued me for “Violation of digital privacy” because I found out when her fuck buddy messaged her on IM that she left logged in on my computer. 2 years in court with no end in sight, she cost me everything I built in the last 6 years since my divorce to get rid of her.

True, it was a little more complicated than that, but that and the partition case are the ones that beat me. After two years in court I was looking at another year or two in court because they were dragging everything out and I had the choice of continuing the fight that I probably would have won and ending up splitting the equity in my home with her because her name was on it with mine and then paying both lawyers for the whole thing because it was all tied to the partition case, or settle things and give her basically everything (I didn’t even get enough of my money to pay my legal fees). The fact that she filed the violation of digital privacy on top of the partition meant that I was responsible for paying her lawyer (laws in my state) and then they just dragged their feet and bled me dry since she had drained the joint account and maxed out the joint CC’s. I went through my personal savings trying to pay my lawyer and save my credit over two years and then she and her lawyer got what was in my house (I had about 100k in equity) in order for me to get the case dropped so that I didn’t walk away in debt further than I had already gotten. The last 6 months I was trying to defend myself because I didn’t have the liquid assets to pay an attorney any longer. I wish there was a place that I could upload her name and tell the story just to protect the next victim.

We were together for just over 5 years. Both previously divorced so decided to be together “forever” monogamously (so I thought) but not get married. We commingled some money, had a few CC’s, bought a home together (my money down and I paid for it but I couldn’t get the mortgage with my credit on my own yet after my divorce so she went on it with me to qualify) and over the 5 years we bought 2 cars in both of our names. When I found out she was a cheating whore I threw her out and she drained the joint bank account, maxed the CC’s and filed her lawsuit.

I’ve still got my Harley, my dog and my life. I’ve lost everything before and rebuilt, I’ll do it again. Although this time it will be a LOT more fun! I moved across the country to somewhere I could ride all year and I’m restructuring my professional life to allow me to live without a car, I’ll still own a truck probably but that’s function and not necessity.
I’m living my life now, or at least working on recreating it that way. My life, my terms.

The point is, that at the end I realized that even if/when I won I was still going to lose because of the way it was structured. 100k equity minus closing costs on the property leaves +-80k split 50/50 because I let her name go on the property with mine equals 40k to me that still would have had to pay her attorney for potentially 4 years of services (they had already told me the cost on her side was over 20k) AND my attorney which was already close to that. On top of that I would have been stuck with the CC debt and lost another undetermined amount of time/years. I settled the case and gave her “almost” everything I had in equity but she had to pay off the joint CC debt she racked up and her own lawyer.
In the end it was less expensive to pay her to gtfo then it was to win and waste any more of life fighting her.
