Nope. I can't wait to grow old alone and have a massive amounts of wisdom. Here's some perspective for you. Almost all the religions speak of going into Nature when you grow old to truly understand the Universe. Also, ever hear an old person speak? They all talk about when the kids move out of the house or go to college, what do they do? They hang out with their friends, travel, and learn something new. Skip all of the middle crap and just jump right to it. Check out Epicureanism or Stoicism.

I wouldn't say "immune" per se. I would say that I've experienced enough heart break, crap from women, and non sense from society that you become a cynic and willingly turn away from the ways of the world. The same thing the Philosopher's of old did. Know thyself! I know myself enough now to know that I don't need "normal" things to be happy, I just need myself, close friends, equity, freedom, and books. The thoughts arise, of course but I'm strong-willed enough now to cast them aside, if it doesn't serve you, destroy it (mentally, that is).

There are lots brother. You need to find what works for you through trial and error. What works for me, may or may not work for you. Common across the board from what I've seen are meditation, a life goal that sets you a part from everyone else, martial arts(weight lifting), traveling, philosophy, and affirming your own life. Stay mindful and ever vigilant over your mind. When a thought arises, ask why. Guard your mind and let nothing in it that doesn't serve you. Journal everything, understand your own mind and become your own best friend. Love life and live with no regrets.
