Jesus fucking Christ. I was at a hockey draft last night with most of the same people who have been doing this for the last 30+ years (a couple have passed away, another moved away) but one guy who has never missed one of these missed his first last night. Why? Because his brother in law flew in (he didn’t know this until after a draft day was set) and THEY HAD TO GO TO A NICE DINNER. Why the fuck could this nice dinner not be postponed until the next day? I don’t know the details but if the arrival of the flight conflicted with draft time, why couldn’t wifey pick up her fucking brother? (We have multiple people willing to give him a lift). Cuz wymyyn. What a pile of trash.

I remember an old adage that went like this: "The only person who can make you happy...is the person who stares back at you in the mirror." Most men live with that idea--even if they've never heard it before...women think happiness is something outside of themselves. I'll give you an example. Many years ago, I was going through Infantry Officer training--IT WAS A BAG DRIVE--and you were always under the scrutiny of your DS (directing staff). Because it was a leadership course...anybody could fail out if they weren't successful on enough tasks, which usually required an intense amount of planning, very little sleep, a whole lot of walking with heavy shit on your back, and anything could spell failure if one of your "subordinates" did something wrong during the execution phase of your task or you forgot to mention a minute detail in your orders. All the while, you were either being eaten by mosquitoes/getting heat stroke/freezing your ass off/being denied food/denied sleep/walking through swamps, etc...Generally, a very miserable time...However, I was happy--I felt the misery and the fatigue but I was happy I was doing something I truly thought was worthwhile. Happiness is easy when you're sipping wine in a hot-tube with a view of the Tyrolean mountains...but you'd eventually get bored of this if this is the only thing you ever did.
