That guy did alot of nice things for her. He must had really loved (or liked) her, to do so many nice things for her.

I also did alot of nice things, or romantic things, in my last LTR. My ex-gf, and I think most women, really suck at reciprocating with doing nice things back. They almost always low-ball, and put in little to no effort to do nice or romantic stuff back. They never spend much money on it, nor effort.
