That's a damn good point. In my particular area we've had a couple of known scammers, so I may be more suspicious than most. At the same time I have given money to a few. Especially in poor countries.

I would help him out just for the laugh. I will sometimes offer to take those guys out to a restaurant and buy them a meal. Some of these guys are lazy bums but there are some who genuinely had a run of shitty luck and ended up homeless, often because of the actions of an ex-wife or a system that does not give a shit about men.
