It costs ~$10 for a domain name, and $50/year for hosting...hosting is free if you are in the "know" where to get it.
If you can't invest that much into your blogging asset...then you won't get any sympathy from me.

Ah, but that "free" doesn't always last... even if you are in the "know" about where to get it.
You have to realize that really isn't the reason the kinds of people* who write these various "blog" things choose to "piggyback" on Wordpress and/or Blogger, etc...
They do it because all of the "features" -- chiefly (at least initially) the easy-to-implement (turnkey) features -- like promotional "SEO" stuff, search, and assorted other things (often the lure/dream of easy-money via ads, and more recently the ease of setting up/linking various other monetization/patronage things: Patreon, etc).
* most of whom, despite their claims, generally have little to no "technical" knowledge of how the systems operate -- just saw a note from "Rollo" that he just (finally?) did a "backup to XML" from his main site... I doubt he has a clue whether that will actually be an effective way of getting all of his data back.

It will be free at initial startup, up to a certain volume of data transfer.
If you're eventually pulling in hundreds of thousands of uniques per month then the host is going to ask you to start kicking in some rent. If that happens, then that's evidence you have something special.
That time between startup and doing those types of numbers, one should truly figure out how to generate some revenue.
There is a silver-lining in every crowd
If Heartiste slips on that opportunity, then he's a starving artist IMO.

Before all of these platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.
The majority would buy a domain and launch a website themselves. It's under your control. What this generation has forgotten, or never even conceptualized is that if you use one of those platforms, you have subjugated your freedom.

By far the best overall blog on the internet IMO - dude is a pump & dump MGTOW - never married and does not recommend it.
I was actually in the process of saving all 700 pages since I thought this would happen - as far as I know CH said he never bothered to make a backup. He has never monetized and I think he basically just ran the whole thing as a public service/
And I dont know who 'Matt' is but CH is a HARD alt-right dude and hates feminism with blazing passion.
