The woman shows off the big rock, with inflated price to her friends. They judge the quality of her future husband by this ring, so she is delighted it is huge. But it means "nothing to her" after the "I get half your shit" band is on.

Then, within the 10-30 years (not mentioned) it somehow loses 66% of its value (currently being sold at 3k, after 1200 purchase from wife). That depreciation is worse than buying a new Tesla.

But also shows she could hold for more than 40% of its real value.

So not only does this prove women are shit at selling, but also that engagement rings are utter wastes of money.

And after the engagement comes all the other shit. Houses, kids, etc. And he has no right to be annoyed.

The well trained "she deserves the best" is heartbreaking.

The engagement ring is not hers until the wedding. Until then it's kind of like a signing bonus for a job. If you don't take the job you owe the signing bonus back. It's technically his property but it's damn tough to get it back and it's easy for her to dump it for some quick cash and you will have no recourse. If you move quickly after the engagement breaks up however you can take legal action to reclaim the ring.
