Now I grew up being a fan of h.g. wells classic story which has been adapted to film for several years now. The last film adaptation being hollowman.
Now this new invisible man film is already getting tons of praise from critics for being and I quote " a smart narrative about how women can be manipulated and abused in relationships."
Now why am I bringing this up here? Well its because Im thinking this movie is the feminist version of what Joker was for the disenfranchised young man. While Joker was shedding light on a real bitter truth with a narrative. Which was how single motherhood, and being neglected can make an unstable man and that society treats men like trash who do not fit with the upper class society or norms. The invisible man I believe is using a fictional narrative to make up a cultural lie. Which is women are oppressed and men are abusive monsters in 2020. Look at the trailer, everything is setting up for the main character is an abuse survivor and its about her trauma and fear of what she has gone through and the fact nobody can do anything to stop her trauma. Because nobody believes her. What does that sound like to you? the fact she has been abused and is being continually abused by this invisible man can be translated with the whole #metoo movement. The please believe me theres a man in this room after me can be seen just the same as. This man abused me. believe me please. Really think about this. The invisible man story was a cautionary tale on how too much power and no restraints can lead a good man to insanity and unleash the dark side of human nature. It was a good story on what could happen if you could act upon impulses and destructive desires and never be held accountable for them. Since you could never get caught in the act.
Hollywood just took this classic science fiction story and turned it into a women are always the victim film and you should believe all women if she says she has been abused even if there is no empirical proof it happened. Lastly I think the title has a hidden meaning. The invisible man isnt just the mere fact hes invisible. Its that any man could be this kind of man, its the man you dont want to admit exists and is out there ladies. Be careful, men are trash you know. I mean look the men in the trailer never believe a word she says when she says this man who isnt there just abused her.
Anyway this unintentionally turned into a long rant, but I think there may be some nasty consequences from this film.
