Seems a female guard on the female side immediately opened the doors to let people out.

The male guard on the male side did not unlock the prisoners..

This wasn’t guards choosing who to save and it does not say that anywhere in the article. This was male guards choosing not to save anyone when the female guard chose to save the prisoners in her wing.

I live in Mexico, and any time a woman is murdered (whether or not it falls under the legal criteria to qualify as a femicide), it gets a lot of media attention, yet it is rarely ever mentioned that roughly 88% of murder victims annually are men. This irresponsibly gives people a very skewed idea about who is most in danger when going out on the streets. My mother-in-law constantly worried about her youngest daughter when the latter still lived in Mexico, yet she never worried about her son, even though he used to travel all over the country for work. She was quite surprised when I once told her that her son was about seven times more likely to be murdered than her daughter.
