A couple of months back, there was a video discussed here where a man was being given shit by social workers because he was worried about his daughter's obesity. The caseworker told him it was none of his business and his being worried about it was giving his daughter a complex about her weight.

I've actually got the solution for parenting: it's that you don't sweat the small stuff and make sure your children know they're loved. I've got a whole book about it and I'll be on Oprah to talk about it. In eighteen months, I'll have another solution for parenting: it's that you do sweat the small stuff and give your children tough love. But those two parenting formulae aren't just a good way of selling pop psych books, they can also be weaponized if you want to make somebody look like an unfit parent. If they take the kid to McDonalds, you throw one book at them; if they don't take the kid to McDonald's, you have another book to throw at them.

Geez, that's just moronic. I can't count the number of times I whined as a kid about whatever was on the plate for dinner and had my dad tell me to eat what was in front of me or go hungry.

It's also sort of the rule in my house, since I do the cooking - you can eat what I make, make your own, or go hungry.

My son, whom I was pretty strict with, is now an adult. He's told me many times how grateful he is that I was there to help him develop perspective, since his Mom was overly permissive.

“Even my mother, the strictest mother in the world, said, ‘Why didn’t you just take him to McDonalds? What were you thinking? You know that this is a divorce situation." Maybe he was thinking don't reward kids throwing tantrums? Just my 2 cents.

How is this "mens rights" exactly? It's got nothing to do with the parent in question being a dad, and everything to do with the mother being an idiot who thinks he is an unfit parent for not letting his child eat fast food crap.
