About six months ago, I asked permission to be an approved commenter at /r/FeMRADebates. The sub seemed appealing, because it seemed to be a place for civil discussion, with unbiased mods. And I have to say, it much less moderation happy than /r/Feminism, /r/TwoXChromosomes, or /r/AskWomen. I'be been banned in those places for complimenting a woman (thus generalizing all other), "trolling" by posting everydayfeminism article and praising somebody for an unbiased article. So I had low expectations.
I had calm, level-headed discussions. I have to say, that I did no personal attacks. Unlike in this very sub, where the ignorance of some people makes me lose my calm a bit. I was policed 7 times by the mods. I would not say that I lost my temper, when I was first found violating the rules. I submitted a RT report about the situation of Israeli women, and the handling of rape in Israel. (In Israel, nobody filing a sexual charge, can be prosecuted for any wrongdoing in the case.) As you would expect, some women are quite happy to misuse the system, if there is no possible punishment for doing so. So anyway, there is this Israeli cook of Russian ancestry. He had a GF, with whom he broke up. She went mad over it. She accused him of rape (multiple times), threatened him with prison if he does not marry her. Guy is totally depressed, he does not leave his home for anything else than work. He has a surveillance camera set up above his door, so he can prove he was home at the time of the alleged rape. Same at his job. But his ex is happy to continue her vendetta, and the police carries him away all the time. She was even filmed raging and yelling in front of his apartment, threatening him with prison and death, if he won't give in to her will. So I said in one of my comments, that he will lose his job over this "crazy count".
So for breaking the rules (no slurs), my comment was removed. A 4 paragraph comment was removed for a slur. So I decided to reword it, and comment it again. I wrote "chick with mental issues. It was "not" removed, but sandboxed. Basically it's the same, your comment can not be seen in the thread, unless you follow a link, which points to another place than the deleted ones. So my message was lost, because repeatedly posting the same comment (it was not the same, but never mind) gets me a case 3 warning. So I removed the "chick" and the "mental issue" part, and went with sarcasm by calling her "precious little being with her charming personality". Sandboxed again, for posting the "same" comment. Nice, huh?! If you try to comply with the moderation, and break no rules, you are still "moderated". So that one message, I wanted to convey, earned me a week ban. They initial problem was, that "cunt" is so serious slur, that it's wort comment removal.
What did I do, to point out their double standard? I've called Roosh V a dick, and did the same to Trump. Then made my buddy report it for slurs. Waited a little, whether it gets removed, or sandboxed. Nothing. After a while I've pointed out the double standard of reducing someone to genitals, to which with a slight delay they responded with sandboxing my comments. So if you call someone a cunt, who is documented harassing and threatening people, you are not only moderated, but punished for violating the rules. Do the same for two men, you are probably not punished, only moderated.
Other interesting moderation, which contributed to my ban, when someone explained with the wage gap, that women seem to sleep half an hour longer. I post the numbers to put things in perspective, replying to the mod's comment asking how does it prove that theory. My comment isn't donwoted, but it gets sandboxed shortly after. My second to last violation of their rules was, when in I generalized feminism.
What's wrong with criticizing parts of feminism, when it claims that patriarchy rules and it is totally wrong? Thus it criticizes men pretty much in general and not a movement.
But it seems like things, which generalize other identifiable group (men), like patriarchy theory, toxic masculinity, rape culture; are totally fine. Because it fell out of the fucking sky, and by accident, and supposedly, it advantages men.
TL;DR: To everyone who wants to debate or talk there! There are plenty of different people there. There are many intelligent, and civilized feminists. Some raging idiots on both side. But the playing field is amazingly skewed by biased moderation. Don't assume, it is MensRights, where a feminist can drop by for AMA, and mock and smear men, doing so for hours, answering dozens of questions, and probably won't get banned. Don't assume, that you can have a debate, without someone getting back at you by silencing you. Many of the comments which are removed, or penalized, are never answered, or debated. To some censorship is the debate.
