Right libertarians are shilling for more privitized prisons, to take away social housing, shrink the middle class and drive down wages and job security.
All so corporations can increase their already record breaking profits.
Right libertarianism is not the friend of average men.
Just the top 20%.

Lol OK we've had this discussion before I think. Profits are a result of government making it too hard to compete with the big corporations. But you're not being relevant so please just stay on topic

The big corporate interests bankrolling libertarianism aren't going to deliver a utopia to the average guy.
Its for their benefit and when they want corporate welfare - they will take it from you.

Because there are no big corporate interests in the rest of politics. Good logic mate.
[–]ee4m 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link
I never said there were no corporate interests in politics.
We have been neoliberal since the early 1980s.
I said the big money astroturfing for right libertarianism won't make things better for you, its about them.
Them having the right to pollute and opening borders for a free market in labour, and so on.

I don't even understand your opinions, and I've made a legitimate effort. The corporate presence is massively greater in the republican and democratic parties shouldn't they have already taken over if they are as evil as you claim? Or are the ones that support the libertarian party specifically the only evil ones

I'm saying this entire libertarian movement is bankrolled by people that want an end to environmental protection laws and a return to the sort of capitalism that were there before the great depression.
No unions, mass poverty, corporate tyrianny.
The republian and dems parties are already neoliberal, so they are already fascist leaning.
Libertarianism is taking it to another extreme.

The capitalism of the 20's was negligent and reckless. However, the economy would have rebounded save for FDR, who saw the depression get to it's worst after his reelection.
Libertarians don't want an end to environmental protection, but they also don't think the EPA should be larger than most Fortune 500 companies.
The end result of capitalism is not mass poverty. That is the end result of socialism and crony capitalism, which are quite alike.

Libertarians don't want an end to environmental protection,
The big money behind the movement wants it to end. Basically every free market propaganda outlet and institute is funded by people that want corporate welfare and an end to environmental protection.
The end result of capitalism is not mass poverty.
Capitalism that doesn't have a social contract between the corporations and the people results in mass poverty.
You get 20% of the population that are ok, and 80% living hand to mouth.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a social contract for China's capitalistic tendencies of late, and it's pulling people out of the abject poverty they were living in in the 20th century- that was coincidentally a result of socialism.
You put up free market propaganda as a straw man, but ignore centuries of literature supporting it - Adam Smith and Frederic Bastiat through Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell. Smith and Bastiat in particular lived before the era of corporations in the sense that you and I know, and came to the same conclusions. Never in the modern era has a society succeeded in without an economy rooted in capitalism.
A major gas company (I believe it was Shell, but not sure) just pledged over $1,000,000,000 to renewable energy research. My own company encourages rideshares and working from home. Libertarianism is still very grassroots, without much in the way of corporate sponsorship. All of these disprove your argument that big moneyed interests behind the libertarian party are backing it in the hopes of reversing environmental controls.

If you can't afford 40 lawyers, you can't do business anymore really. Someone has to keep up with all the laws and regulations you are supposed to follow, and the average person starting a business isn't going to have time to do so. On this we agree.

It's beyond difficult for me to open up for example, a seafood restaurant because of the government. Which corporation benefits? Red Lobster

The way it was explained to me (which made it make sense) was this:
Why do we license hairstylists? Is it because there's a rampant issue with hairstylists killing people? No. It's because that limits the competition among hairstylists. Existing hairstylists pushed for that regulation to protect themselves from competition.
That thought really opened my eyes.

What. You have to be registered to cut hair?
The Ukrainian woman I go to for my hair who doesn't speak a lick of English couldn't possibly know that lol

Yeah, In some states they are required to have significantly more training than police officers.
Thanks mostly to lobbying by the cosmetics industry, In TN you need 300 hours of training to be legally allowed to wash other peoples hair

The whole reason for those regulations is simply to cut down on competition. Sad isn't it?
