I went to a therapist after my divorce. It was very frustrating, and probably more harmful than helpful.

First off, I could not yet voice my issue. I had little actual idea what an emotionally abusive relationship was. Despite the effects I was living with, I couldn't identify myself as an abuse victim. The therapist did not help here, she just kept piling on ways that I might have been an abuser. Even when she had some sympathy, she had >ZERO< materials written to a man's perspective. "Swap the genders in your head" is not an answer, the materials made me want to further hide my issues.

Not every therapist is bad, but finding the right one is very hard. If you aren't getting a reasonable response, leave and try again with a different one.
