So the public buses in India come in this format - the entirety of the row of seats on the left belong to the women (they put a "Ladies" sign) and the row on the right are supposed to be occupied by the men, which also has a number of seats assigned for the senior citizens and the handicapped. Inspite of many of the women's seats being empty quite often, no man dares to sit on them; they rather prefer to keep standing the rest of their journey, sweating profusely, in the narrow crowded corridor between the two rows of seats. Once I boarded a bus in which the women's row was almost empty, still a few men were standing, so I went up to the last seat of the women's row and just sat there. A few stops later, two women get up, and instead of taking up any of the so many empty women's seats, came straight up to me and told me to empty the seat. I was like what? I had nothing to do, just got up, stood for the rest of my journey. It would have been foolish if I tried to argue with those women.

Isn't this only in place because men constantly grope women on these busses if they're not separated?
