I go to the same school and they make the most random rules every year for no reason.

I would really like to know why (and when) these rules were first set up. What problem did they think they were solving here? If you want to change this rule, I think you'll need to know this.

If it is in the UK it is illegal to discriminate. Boys are allowed to have long hair as are girls but it needs to be tied back for sport etc or indeed throughout the school day.

This reminds me of a catholic school which issued a dress code guideline for prom. There were 21-pages describing the many dresses which were allowed for girls, While boys were only allowed to wear a suit/tuxedo.
Because of this Yahoo news ran a lengthy article criticizing the school's dress code FOR GIRLS.

Pick a different school. You’re obviously in a charter or private school. That means you or your parents signed the rules and agreed to follow them to be enrolled. You have no leg to stand on.

I was a middle school teacher for nine years and frankly, you can follow the dress code or you can go home.
