Despite the prevalence of false accusations, the Prime Minister of Pakistan wants to punish rape more severely than crimes such as murder. In Pakistan, murderers may receive the death penalty, although it is never carried out publicly, and many murderers receive no consequences for their actions whatsoever because of "forgiveness" laws. The PM suggested implementing public hangings of men convicted of rape, but due to fears of international backlash is instead attempting to make castration a standard punishment for rape, a punishment used for no other crime and which would destroy a country's economy with international sanctions if it were ever used against women.
