Hey all! I volunteer for the board of directors for a men’s support group in Northern Canada that is growing rapidly. We have been in the national news often since our creation in January of 2020. Our aim is mostly to create a weekly support group solely for men of any age, we bring topics to the table each week and talk about them. These topics range from hobbies, forgiveness, pride, lose of a loved one, and many others. We have one key tenant that separates us from other groups, and that is the concept of breaking barriers by breaking bread. This group started in a predominately indigenous community of La Ronge, Saskatchewan but all walks of life attend these meetings from crown prosecutors, judges, doctors, teachers, mechanics and those without employment or homes. We provide healthy meals each meeting and help to instil ownership of actions and the creation of a space where men are allowed to share how they feel without judgement. We are growing rapidly every day and have expanded to offering our meetings in nearby correctional facilities, with our 5 year business goal to have expanded outside the province and have satellite meetings in various communities.
