There's a good reason most of the RP bloggers remain anonymous, they have too much to lose though the backlash if people know who they are and the ideals they hold. Add to that, the controversy generated would get it either shut down or infiltrated pretty quickly.

It's a nice idea, but it's too idyllistic.

[–]therock6658[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is a sad reality, but I think it can be achieved though, especially when guys like PUAs are able to have conferences and yet, no one outside the PUA community would know about it.

[–]Endorsed Contributortepper2 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No. The attendees would be outnumbered by feminists and SJWs looking to dox anybody and everybody.

Also, I don't see the value in a manosphere conference, personally. I think attendance was sparse at whatever MRA conference you referred to not because of ticket prices, but because it's just not as huge a draw as you think.

[–]therock6658[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well I think it was ticket prices.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Travel, mostly. Way more expensive than tickets.

[–]Senior Contributorcocaine_face 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You shouldn't take the risk of outing yourself unless you stand to personally gain from it.

You'll win no friends from publicly associating with the manosphere.

I don't think we should be that pessimistic about it. If we all join together, the general public might look at us and think "Maybe this is a good thing".

[–]Senior Contributorcocaine_face 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Your best bet would be to start a men's shed-esque environment that isn't exactly pro-manosphere, but lends itself to turning men into redpill men.

There are millions of 18 year old kids who would love to get out of their parent's houses and learn how to become men. Throw up a bunch of cots like a military barracks in an old warehouse, add a few lifting platforms and start teaching job skills. I'm honestly surprised people haven't done this, considering how absolutely cheap and beneficial it would be.

If you think the general public sees a community that is unapologetic about these views on women will be seen as "a good thing", you really need a reality check. Sorry to put it that way, but short of a real and thorough paradigm change, this won't happen.

[–]Endorsed ContributorBluepillProfessor 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would present a paper at such a conference and would gladly attend.

[–]docbloodmoney 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Truthfully... I'd only go if nobody I know knew I was attending. There's a strong stigma against reality in society.

Also just because Gamergate is largely based on empiricism and rationality doesn't mean it has anything to do with the manosphere.

[–]therock6658[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know that. I just threw that one in there to add something to the hypothetical discussion.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I would love to see such a thing, frankly. But then I would, since that's my video you linked there. I see a lot of people assuming fear or lack of interest would make such a thing unfeasable, even some saying that's why IMCI wasn't massive. I attended that conference too, by the way.

Most people that didn't go, that gave a reason in the comments to the announcement, didn't because of travel costs, or work commitments, not because of fear, or the actual ticket price. I didn't see a single feminist the whole conference, by the way, and every local cab driver or store clerk seemed to ask what we were doing, what we were about.

In fact, I didn't encounter one single hostile reaction. Usually it was 'I think you guys are doing a good thing. Its about time something was done' or some variant, and male or female made no difference.

A lot was learned from that conference, I think. Myself, I am lobbying for exactly what you wonder about the possibility of. I would love to see Rollo, paul, Barbarossa, Karen, Star dusk, etc speaking at. Hell, throw Fred Reed in there too, even though he doesn't 'identify' as anything in particular.

You never know, something might happen to make such a conference possible.

[–]therock6658[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Oh, so YOU'RE Factory. How's every little thing?

I guess you could say that your video despite it being a couple of years old, gave me a little bit of hope within a bleak future that I see for the manosphere due to the infighting that we're doing and this shift in focus on us just fighting each other instead of fighting the real enemy, which I consider to be feminism. There definitely isn't a shortage of people talking about the evils of feminism and just how harmful it is, in fact some of the most entertaining channels I see on Youtube talk about anti-feminism and combating the dumb things that feminists say. What I'm not seeing however is people taking feminism as serious of a threat as I feel they should be taking, as I feel that the existence of feminism and it's increase presence in the media and the government could be potentially extremely harmful to men and masculinity. If we don't take feminism more seriously soon, we could all be slaves under the second coming of the female run Third Reich (I know that's hyperbole but I genuinely see a very bleak future).

I can understand that not everyone could make it out to Detroit to attend the ICMI as work is always getting in the way of everything. This was AVFMs first crack at forming a conference after all and I feel like it was a good hit that brought AVFM to first base in a baseball game, though what I would like to see is for AVFM to make a homerun in the conference sector, pulling out all the stops and making this next conference a success by force.

Personally, I think part of the reason why I'm so pessimistic about the future of the manoshpere is because major figures in the MRM (Karen Straughan, Alison Tieman etc) are no longer making videos to suck people into men's rights, guys like John The Other and Razor Blade Kandy have defected from the MRM and joined MGTOW, proclaiming all women to be the enemy and not just feminism and also a lack of effort, from what I saw, of the MRM trying to form some kind of partnership with Gamergate, which is the big thing going on now, and educating the "youngin's" on how Gamergate is going through the same thing the MRM has been going through for years.

Regardless though. All this infighting between all the different communities in the manosphere is really getting me down and I do not like it. If we had a conference like this, maybe there could be a new understanding between all sides just as long as people are open to new ideas and don't get hostile over something they don't agree with.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Don't let it get you down. Most of the infighting is superficial, and very little of it actually has impact in concrete terms. One thing that might help is to avoid looking at MRA, mgtow, etc as 'teams', and look at them not as descriptors people, but of behavior.

Can MGTOW get married? Who cares? Why the need to cling to a label? John is the same guy, doing the same things, regardless of what he describes himself as. And he is involved in a project I am working on right now, that places all manospherean thought on the same plane, in the same media space, as a smorgasboard of ideas.

Feminism is very powerful, and may even be a 'front' for much more powerful interests still, so realistic goals are vital. The government will not be lobbied. The people will. That is how we win.

[–]therock6658[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ah! I'm glad to hear that you're working on a new project and trying to unite everyone, like I did here with this hypothetical conference. I wish you good luck on your project and hope that it will be a huge success.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks. We shall see how it goes soon enough. But I appreciate the support.

[–]C00l_Guy 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'd like to but SJW's are a petty evil bunch there is a good chance they will be snapping photos of people going and getting them fired or even having a violent protest at the venue.

[–]therock6658[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I should have probably put a disclaimer on my OP stating "Let's just eliminate feminists from being a factor here. People might be scared for feminist violence but let's just say that feminists would not know about this conference".

[–]Glenbert 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nope. You're all on your own.

Conferences are beta as fuck.

[–]1User-31f64a4e 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Why? What's the point?

On the one hand, this sounds like a sci-fi/comics/diy/woodworking/hackerspace convention - everyone has to pay for parts of it which don't interest them at all.

It also seems to me that you name several communities which don't want to be conflated with one another. For example, MRA has to disown PUA because MRA it is political in nature and PUA is crude, rude and socially unacceptable. Part of why it's so awesome. In another corner MGTOW says have fun, but we're doing our own thing; wish you luck and all, but we're enjoying the decline. So it just seems unworkable.

I expect some men to have connections to more than one part of the manosphere, but some grand merging ... is impossible.

But putting all that aside, back to my first question.

Why?

[–]therock6658[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To unite everyone and discuss their positions on how to help men and masculinity. Obviously, not everyone is gonna agree.

[–]1User-31f64a4e 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess I was trying to say, some of these approaches are inherently too far apart to unify.

I also have to ask why unification is useful? A decentralized, multi-pronged, leaderless approach to male issues is probably best.

And how to help is sort of off the mark. We're not weak and helpless; once men wake up, we will impose solutions.

[–]therock6658[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hopefully get a dialog going without getting at each other's throats and instead get people to think about what other groups are saying.
