Summary

Acquisition of pussy is a lagging indicator of male success. Treating it as a leading indicator leads to poor outcomes.

When I was a college freshman, I ran with a group of about a dozen guys who lived in the same dorm as me. We hung out on campus, talk shit in our dorm rooms and went to parties together. A couple of the guys were definitely Chads and slayed lots of pussy. They’d tell us colorful stories of their conquests, often elaborating on the dirty details. We looked up to these two guys: they were clearly the Alphas of our little group.

I ran into one of these former Chads a few months ago at a charity event near our alma mater. We had beers and caught up. He was average in every respect: average looking wife, two kids, mid-level job. If you asked me in college what this guy would be doing at this stage of his life, I never would have predicted that he would be just an average guy. The funny thing was that when we caught up, all he wanted to talk about was the past and his exploits as campus Chad. He was a guy who clearly peaked in college and didn’t improve after that. It seemed like, at least to his friends who knew him in college, that his perceived value would always be tied to his college notch count.

Back to my experience in college. I did OK with girls my freshman year but my sophomore year I wanted to reach the standards set by the Chads of our group. Through effort and determination, I was able to increase the quality and quantity of my lays. I wasn’t quite at Chad level, but definitely trending up. You would think life was great. I was spinning plates and hooking up, but something was off. By the middle of my junior year I felt like my life was out of control.

During this time, my grades tanked and the level of drama in my life was increasing to crazy levels. Two plates started an all-out fistfight at a party thrown by a buddy. Another threatened to have one of her cousins track down and maul me when he got out of prison. A girl who I became exclusive with cheated on me. Girls who were approaching and flirting with me sophomore year started to avoid me. Shit was getting crazy and I decided to step away from the pussy parade and focus on myself. My grades went up, I became more fit and healthy and got back to a point where my life was under control.

Then a crazy thing happened: the girls who were avoiding me started to approach again. I could have gone back to my old ways of prioritizing pussy and spending an inordinate amount of my time chasing and managing girls, but I scaled back my time with girls, focused my efforts on my classwork and succeeded in my quest to graduate with honors and establish my career.

Now that I’m a business consultant, I realize that what happened to my old buddy Chad and even me during my days of chasing tail. We made a classic mistake of not using a success metric correctly. We saw acquisition of pussy, quantity and quality, as a leading indicator of success when in reality it’s a lagging indicator. Rather than focus on chasing and bedding as many girls as possible, we would have experienced more long term, sustainable, enjoyable success if we focused on improving ourselves first.

In business, lagging indicators measure outputs, the results of activities that produce results. Company revenue and earnings are classic lagging indicators. The final score of a game is a lagging indicator. A person’s weight and body fat percentage are lagging indicators. They tell you what happened but they aren’t directly actionable.

Leading indicators measure inputs that produce results and can predict the final value of lagging indicators. In business, sales closing rates and customer satisfaction scores are classic leading indicators. If you watch American football, statistics like average yards gained, average yards allowed, turnovers and third down success can predict a team’s success. Calories consumed, nutrition macros and workout statistics are leading indicators of weight and body fat percentage.

Teams and businesses that focus on lagging indicators often make poor decisions that lead to their eventual demise. Companies that obsess over quarterly earnings will make decisions like short term cost cuts, mass layoffs or price increases that will boost short-term earnings but put their long term viability in jeopardy. Teams that want to win immediately will make poor personnel decisions that can undermine their long-term success.

Business and teams that focus on maximizing the performance of leading indicators will have the best chance of building long-term, sustainable success. They may start out behind their competitors, but will often surpass them in the long run. Think Southwest Airlines in business and the New England Patriots and Golden State Warriors in pro sports.

This concept definitely applies to men in the sexual marketplace. Leading indicators of male success measure inputs that produce physical fitness, career success, increased knowledge and wisdom, activities that increase male value. For example, consistently measuring workout frequency, workout results and nutrition and managing your metrics to firm goals will lead to increased fitness and improvements in physique that will ultimately increase your SMV.

Quantity and quality of pussy is a lagging indicator, an output that reflects the long-term result of consistently applying productive inputs.

Managing your life under the assumption that pussy is a leading indicator can result in poor short-term decisions that will undermine your long-term value as a man: over-investing time and money in women, supplicating to women and tolerating bad behavior.

Making acquisition of pussy a leading indicator of success ultimately leads to the error of putting pussy on a pedestal.

Lesson Learned

Productive activity = increased value = opportunity to attract more and better pussy. When measuring your performance, focus on the productive activity. Don’t put pussy first.
