Hey guys Before you think you've been baited by a race troll hear me out: I am indian, but more importantly I'm American, I was born here and during the attacks on the Twin Towers on 9/11, I experienced racism and some difficult things growing up. I come from a Sikh background, so that means I had a turban growing up. If many of you don't know, Sikhs were primarily targeted for hate crimes during 9/11, and more recently the Wisconsin Shootings. I know of many people who were victims including myself, including a elderly family friend who was beaten by a pole and hospitalized near a Sikh Temple, and a man in the community who was shot and killed in Arizona. I myself have been called names when I was younger, leading me to internalize insecurity and even some anger against white people (primarily). I'm not willfully racist, my gf is white, and I have some friends who are as well. I don't currently wear a turban, but I did put one on once for a night on the town in my liberal college city and I was harrassed by a group of guys in a jeep while they yelled something in Arabic (their ignorance obviously) and threw drinks as they drove by (could've been guns). My question is: how do I get over those repressed emotions and hate towards both American ignorance, white people (I guess), and my expectations of how society should be? How do I keep healthy bonds with my non-Indian pals? Please offer sincere words, and keep any jokes funny and not lame. Thanks.

tl;dr I internalized a lot of racism and bullying growing up and I believe it caused me to have insecure attachment around making friends.
