Yeah, but let's get real here about one glaring underlying cause. If a girl doesn't get pregnant after 4 years with a guy (whether planned or not), the best evolutionary plan is to look around because he's not getting the job done. Especially when resources in her surroundings are high and survival is not an immediate concern.

Just look at it from a evolutionary POV. It used to be replacement rate of a human species for a stable population was just over 4 kids, due to death in childbirth, infections, etc. Let alone growing a population which would be 5+.

Now let's figure realistic childbearing years at 15-39, or 24 years long. 4 years is 1/6 of that, a big chunk, especially when these modern long pre-marriage relationships are in the 20s where she squandered around half her childbearing years already by 27. And her most fertile half because after 27, the decline already occurs.

The civilized brain might plan to do what it wants, but when the instincts and hormones are going to go the other way, the civilized part of the brain will most likely go along and rationalize. I think we all know how it's like when our best intentions met our actual urges and utterly lost.

This is one reason the true love concept and long courtships never really increased success rates of relationships and a lot of cultures had the couple married and pumping out kids asap.

I mean, this system wasn't perfect either, lots of loveless marriages occurred, but the other route is also rather pointless (how high is divorce now?) on a results basis and only results in a declining birth rate -- something disastrous for, say, 14th C Europe that just survived the black death.

Sigh, does every German discussion have to go Nazi? Well, if you fucking want it, then have it.

First, many of the calvinists moved to American. For instance, the actual British Puritans wanted the religious freedom of the new world to... be even more strict. The mennonites and Huguenots had different motivations or pressures but on American shores they landed just the same. This is where much of the attitudes originate here.

Now, the Nazis had absolutely no problem with the body and sexuality, what was known as FreiKorperKultur (free body culture) came before the turn of the 20th century long before them and was pervasive in the culture.

At the top here is very typical Nazi art which Hitler fully approved of.

The Nazis also had officially run military brothels. I might be wrong, but I think the US military let that dirty work fall to 3rd parties whereever they went under plausible deniability.

And the top leadership even planned to rehabilitate gay men in Concentration Camp by making them go to a brothel once a week to learn "the joys of the opposite sex".

Even pictures of Hitler's mistress / last day wife can be found nude sunbathing her sister took I think. Thankfully Eleanor Roosevelt doesn't have that scandal. Earliest I heard of a Presidential Wife was Jackie Onassus, idk if ever released, but after he WH life in Europe with greek husband.

The nazis were a lot of shitty things. Being puritanical about the body or sex relative to the times was not one of them.

German military brothels were set up by Nazi Germany during World War II throughout much of occupied Europe for the use of Wehrmacht and SS soldiers. These brothels were generally new creations, but in the West, they were sometimes set up using existing brothels as well as many other buildings. Until 1942, there were around 500 military brothels of this kind in German-occupied Europe. Often operating in confiscated hotels and guarded by the Wehrmacht, these facilities served travelling soldiers and those withdrawn from the front. According to records, at least 34,140 European women were forced to serve as prostitutes during the German occupation of their own countries along with female prisoners of concentration camp brothels. In many cases in Eastern Europe, the women involved were kidnapped on the streets of occupied cities during German military and police round ups called łapanka or rafle.
