As long as it takes to get your SMV to where you want it to be.

And what should it consist of?

Reading. Lifting. Interesting hobbies. Activities that improve yourself.

"Monk mode" is a rationalization out of taking action. The only way you learn anything in this world is by putting yourself out there and living. Experience is king.

Unless your SMV is so rock-bottom low that there's no point even trying with women (i.e. morbid obesity), monk mode is just a cope where you rationalise not talking to women and improving your dating/social skills.

It all depends on what you want to achieve from your monk mode period. Personally for me monk mode is a chance to focus wholly and solely on improving myself and finishing my degree. The key thing is to set goals and reassess at intervals, if you find its not working there's other ways to grow.
